Welcome to the Thelocactus site

The arid lands of the central Mexico plateau are home to many cacti, among which there are the Thelocactus species. These are small to medium sized plants with a beautiful spination and showy flowers. Since their first introduction in Europe in the nineteenth century, they have been very popular among collectors, mainly for their appearance, free-flowering habit and ease of cultivation. The genus is small, made up of about 15-20 entities, the number varying according to the authority. The names associated with this genus are many more and for a non-specialist may be difficult to untangle among them. I hope to give you enough information to find the right way to better understand these fascinating plants.
